  andrew, thnx 4 writing back....i agree with u about most of what u said ...but there's one thing i want 2 make clear ....we have enough food for everybody :D
  and u know what?!!... we cud use more people like u around ...people that don't judge other people by thier religion and bilieves !!
  beside i wanna add one thing about muslims ...our way of life is just like yours ..we work,go to school , we hang out with our friends,we go out on dates , and we have all sorts of groups Emos , punks , metalheads , rappers , plastics , jerks ,and ofcourse nerds
  that's y when i c what people write about us in the internet or the way they make us look like in thier movies it surprises me....but what is really funny is when i tell someone i'm from Syria and he goes like....AaAAAAh is that a country?!!!!!
  i have nothing against the americans because most of them are being tricked by the media and by thier own country...and am not saying we don't have issues we have plenty too but they r not the same issues the media is telling!!!
  anyway .....goverments sucks cause no matter how good things or bad things they offer u ,they're still doing what's best for them without thinking about any of us!!
  i wish if the anarchy would work out then we wudn't have to live our lifes the way they want!!....
  FUCK Authority !!!!!..it ruins our lives!!!

  mimi, thanks for writing. not sure what's going on in the middle east, i don't live there, and have never even been there. all i know is from hearsay and media, which yes, is skewed and paints whatever picture they want you to see. i do know there are a lot of protests and overthrows going on right now, which from what i've heard is a political issue, but even more so a resource issue (lack of food for instance).
  
  as far as what i think of my country, i think it has some problems (like any country). the biggest problem with us is we believe we need to solve everyone else's problems before we solve our own, because we convince ourselves the USA is perfect. we're one of the smartest countries, and one of the stupidest countries. our dumbest are the dumbest, and are smartest are maybe not the smartest, but pretty far up there. we're fat, belligerant, and can't keep our noses out of other people's business.
  
  one thing i would like to let you in on: although from the outside, it appears we fear and hate muslims, that's once again what the media tells you. i know hundreds of people, not one hates muslims. i think the problem is that the ones who do hate muslims (or foreigners in general) are the LOUDEST AND EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HOW TERRIBLE NON-CHRISTIANS ARE! do we hate muslims? no. at least, i don't ;)
  
  i do appreciate you thinking that we're trying to take over syria. i can't argue for or against that, i have no idea what goes on in our leader's heads. i do know that they think bigger than you or me, they think in terms of long-term gain for their beloved country, which may not always mean the best for you or me (or anyone) and may not be the right decision by any stetch. if you want to know what i think, we're out of money, people here are sick of war and taking over other countries when we can't even run our own. the chances of us taking over the middle east country by country are pretty low.
  
  that said we do do some stupid shit from time to time.

  Sandy: i'm not an anarchist PRACTICALLY. i believe controlled/regulated capitalism is an entirely good system. ideologically, i AM an anarchist...but in my mind, we have anarchy already. where most people think "anarchy is not having government," i think "anarchy is the people deciding for themselves." in our case, the people have already decided for themselves...and decided they want a government.
  
  if human nature were not an issue, i would agree 100% with anarchist theory:
  * i don't believe in property ownership, the land belongs to the earth. given human nature and population though, it makes sense to divide things up (although i believe we take it to an extreme).
  * i believe if everyone puts in a good days work, they deserve the spoils that anyone else would get. sure, it's nice if someone works harder that they get a bit more. i guess deep down i'm a socialist.
  * i think eating meat is fine as long as the animals were treated humanely and it's not scarfed down for every meal of every day. overconsumption of meat is actually a much larger problem than people think. not only does it destroy *necessary* habitats, it uses incredible amounts of fossil fuels, energy, and raw materials that could be used to feed humans. take the water and grain you give to one cow and a human could live quite comfortably.
  
  i think, however, most of our problems are not caused by capitalism. i believe most of our ("our" meaning the developed western world) problems are caused by 1. overpopulation and 2. ignorance (voluntary, mainly).
  
  there are just too many fucking people on this rock for enough to go around (at least given our current setup). add ignorance into the mix which everyone (including myself) is guilty of, and you get what we have now, and what will soon be a lot worse: lots of people fighting over very little and not really thinking about why or how we can fix it.
  
  no economic system, governmental system, or religious system can hold the fibers of humanity together when our basic needs are no longer met. so as far as sociopolitical opinions go, i don't really think it matters a whole lot. people just need to stop breeding so much, that would actually solve most of our problems. we're victims of our collective success.
  
  also try to remember that in the grand scheme of things, humans are a blip, a flash, a pin dropping. we're sharing this planet with millions of other species, most of which have been here a lot longer. we've been around for less than .001% of the earth's long life, and the earth is one planet in one solar system in a galaxy with billions and billions of stars each with its own planets, and our galaxy is one in hundreds of billions floating around an unfathomable emptiness.
  
  we're not that important.
